Thanks for supporting Offline Journal!
You're supporting a record of photography in, from and of Wales
I’ll make this quick!…
Firstly, I’d like to thank you for supporting Offline Journal - a fledgling publication - as it sets out to document the development of contemporary photography in Wales.
In print, every April and October.
With three issues published since launching in October 2018, Offline Journal has proven popular with those interested in photography in Wales but would rather read offline from the clutter of the internet. Issue #004 will be published in early April 2020 and I’m excited to have more great photography included alongside new writing on photography. As I’ve stated previously, issues #001 - #004 will be limited to 150 printed copies for each issue. They will never appear in digital format nor their content published online.
Looking towards issues #004 and #005 in 2020, I hope to attract new subscribers as a way of planning and funding future issues; and more new Offline Essays and Indie Exhibition supplements as unique rewards. The next two Essays and Exhibition supplements are printed and teasing me from their boxes. I can hear them now… :)
And I’m grateful to six fantastically-supportive galleries for stocking individual copies of Offline on their shelves: National Museum Cardiff; The Workers Gallery; Found Gallery; Ffotogaleri y Gofeb; Oriel Colwyn; and The Martin Parr Foundation.
So what’s this - why a (online) Newsletter?
Committing to publishing two issues of Offline each year, I’ve always been conscious of the six month interval between them (although myself and contributors are busy pulling the next issue together!). I believe this could be time well spent in not only following up on articles and news in previous issues but, importantly, offer Journal readers and the wider photography community the opportunity to provide feedback on content I’m including (or missing) and engage in discussions on various themes I might offer up.
To that end, I’m pleased to offer this introduction to the Offline Newsletter for you and others who have supported and/or expressed an interest in Offline Journal. It will appear 8pm every first and third Sunday each month starting Sunday 2nd February. My hope is the Newsletter will offer you and other photographers a platform to not only stay informed but encourage you respond and engage in discussions as an Offline community - online!
Brian
