Hello again
Things continue to warm up in photography around Wales - I encourage you to browse the growing listings page of photography exhibitions and upcoming events in the menu tab on the web page of this post or via the button at the bottom of this page.
I’m also pleased to share an update on the PHOTO ZINES & SELF-PUBLISHING EVENT unveiled in the previous Newsletter…
PICTURES ON PAGES
The new event, titled PICTURES ON PAGES, is an experiment of sorts and aims to offer a relaxed opportunity over three hours for networking and discussion around self-publishing and photography Zines.
A collaboration effort between Offline Journal and the Photography department at the University of South Wales (USW) in Cardiff, PICTURES ON PAGES will be hosted at their Atrium Campus in the centre of Cardiff 1-4pm on the afternoon of Friday 20 October 2023. I thank them for enthusiastically partnering on this.
PICTURES ON PAGES neatly dovetails and expands on my Progredior piece in issue #010 of Offline Journal, where I introduced Offline’s own experiment with photo zines in the form of the catalog series of exhibition catalogues. Alongside a guest panel discussion on the role of the Zine format in photography, a central feature will be a large table with photo Zines on display for attendees to examine and discuss. We’d love anyone - including you - to submit (or bring along) examples of your own photo Zine efforts to add to the work on show.
We’ve created a dedicated event page for PICTURES ON PAGES which provides more details and will carry updates as they happen in the run-up to the event.

RedRoom photowalk #2
Sunday 27 August was the second of the RedRoom series of photowalk events, encouraging photographers of all skill levels to get out in the fresh air with others.
Castell Coch in Tongwynlais near Cardiff was the latest location where RedRoom hosts Simon Regan and Marc Arkless offered participants the opportunity to engage in photography using large format cameras and create paper negatives while exploring the beautiful castle and surrounding woodland trails.
If you're interested in keeping abreast on their upcoming events, you can follow @theredroomwales on Instagram for news and updates on their third photowalk. These events are a great way to connect with fellow photographers and continue exploring your passion for photography in an informal and fun way.
BOP 23 Programme Announced
October is shaping up to be busy for photography events.
If you can’t make it up to Colwyn Bay at the start of the month for The Northern EYE Festival speaker weekend on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October, you can fill your boots with all-things-photobooks that same weekend at BOP 23 - Bristol’s annual Photobook Festival.
The event website has just been updated with latest details on the 2023 programme of events, exhibitions and guest talks happening around the primary BookFair in the main event space which features many dozens of indie photobook publishers.
