PICTURE POST SHOW OPEN
National Museum Cardiff now has ‘Picture Post: A Twentieth Century Icon’ running in their photography Gallery 18.
Before 24-hour news and social media, how did people see the world? In the 1930s, Picture Post revolutionized the way Britain understood itself. This groundbreaking photo-magazine captured everyday life, major events, and shifting social attitudes, reaching 1.7 million readers at its peak.
This exhibition brings Picture Post to life through striking photography, revealing Britain’s transformation from the 1930s to the 1950s. From war and politics to cultural change, discover the moments that defined a nation.
– Museum Cardiff
‘Picture Post’ comprises over 120 photographs by photographers including Bert Hardy, Kurt Hutton, Grace Robertson, Bill Brandt and Lee Miller.
The exhibition is free and you can pre-book your tickets before visiting, with the option to make a small donation to support the Museum.
Note: There are three events related to the PICTURE POST exhibition taking place in the Museum and Cardiff University. Check this Newsletter’s updated exhibitions and Events listings for dates/times and ticket links for each (the first being noon this Thursday in Museum Cardiff).
Also recently opened in Museum Cardiff and running until 7 September (again, free to enter) is artist John Akomfrah’s ‘Listening All Night to the Rain’ - an immersive audio-visual piece on contemporary art and activism.
