Hello again and Happy New Year!
Christmas has come and gone for another year and as everyone braves the cold weather and slowly gets back into work mode, here are a couple of bits of news relating to photography in Wales.
I’m also offering a couple of Offline Journal publications at a reduced price for anyone seeking some photography reading material for this colder weather! See below.
Please feel free to let me know of any upcoming events or exhibitions that I haven’t included on the exhibitions listings page. Similarly, you can leave any comments or info by clicking the comments icon at the bottom of this page.

BARGAIN OFFER!!
As one of National Museum Cardiff’s most popular exhibitions with over 90,000 visitors since opening in May last year, THE VALLEYS ended its successful run on 5th January 2025.
To accompany the exhibition, the 44-page ‘Bargoed Mining Community’ catalog was published as a collaboration between Offline Journal and Swedish photographer Kjell-Åke Andersson to document the fifteen photographs shown in the exhibition, with three additional images from his larger archive of images shot in Bargoed between 1976 and 1985.
I have a small number of the 44-page catalogs available at a one-time bargain price of just £5.00 plus £2 P&P.
These are from an early print run that used staple binding before we opted for perfect binding on the second run that went out to Offline Journal Subscriber Plus supporters and also stocked by Museum Cardiff’s Shop. Exactly the same images and page content, just different binding.
You can order a copy of catalog 004 directly from the Offline Journal online store. Whilst stocks last, I’m also offering the reduced £2 P&P rate for the limited number of earlier catalogs 001 (David Hurn) and 002 (Pete Davis).
THE COLOUR OF STEEL
Currently on the last lap of assignments to complete her Degree in photography at Coleg Gwent, Tamsin Stirling is currently exhibiting a small selection of prints from her COLOUR OF STEEL project in Blackwood.
Describing the project, Stirling says…
“I made images of degraded steel and slag from the former East Moors steelworks found on Splott Beach, took some materials into the studio and made images of the current Celsa steelworks”.
