I’m pleased to reveal the new issue #013 of Offline Journal is now available for pre-order, and will ship 19 October.
Taking the theme CAUSE & EFFECT, issue #013 looks at the work, and motive behind it, of several photographers from Wales gravitating to subjects aligned with, challenging or opposing, their personal beliefs.
You can pre-order a copy from the limited edition print run now or, alternatively, take a 2-issue Subscription (or Subscription Plus option with printed supplements) with P&P included.
THE VALLEYS - REFLECTIONS
Next to reflect on their photograph included in THE VALLEYS exhibition currently showing in National Museum Cardiff is Huw Alden Davies.
Huw recounts the story behind one of the photographs made made of his father as part of his ‘PRINCE’ series and more recent ‘Scaffold to the Moon’ photobook.

Between now and early January 2025 when the exhibition ends, I’ll be posting individual stories behind the images, narrated by the several of the participating photographers, here on Offline Journal newsletters and then collecting them all onto a dedicated page. I’d like to thank the photographers who responded by recording their own story and supplied the corresponding image. Do try to go along and see The Valleys exhibition in Museum Cardiff as the range of photography on show is impressive.

THE DYNAMIC
The Dynamic is the story of Wales’ most distinctive local newspaper, first published in Abertillery in May 2015 by editors Tony Flatman and Julian Meek, and the community they represent as told by the paper’s former staff photographer, Sebastián Bruno.
This exhibition tells the story of the newspaper through photographs, video, and audio that immerses visitors in Tony and Julian’s universe. The centrepiece is The Dynamic office installation which once occupied 17 High Street, Abertillery. This was acquired by Amgueddfa Cymru/Museum Wales in April 2024.
