THE VALLEYS - REFLECTIONS
Next to reflect on their photograph included in THE VALLEYS exhibition currently showing in National Museum Cardiff is KEN GRANT.
Grant recounts the story behind one of his numerous photographs made in the Valleys during his trips back and forth to Wales over many years.

Between now and early January 2025 when the exhibition ends, I’ll be posting individual stories behind the images, narrated by the photographers themselves, here on Offline Journal newsletters and then collecting them all onto a dedicated page. I’d like to thank the photographers who responded by recording their own story and supplied the corresponding image. Do try to go along and see The Valleys exhibition in Museum Cardiff as the range of photography on show is impressive.

NEW EXHIBITION CATALOG
To celebrate his work being included in The Valleys exhibition in National Museum Cardiff, Swedish photographer Kjell-Åke Andersson and Offline Journal have produced a 44-page catalog featuring the prints from the exhibition plus 3 additional images he made during his time in Bargoed with miners in the 1970s and 80s.
At 44-pages, the 210 x 210mm catalog includes all fifteen of the images that feature in The Valleys exhibition plus three additional images selected by the photographer from his larger archive of work made in Bargoed when he spent time with the town’s mining community. There is an introduction by the photographer and a special 4-page essay by Huw Beynon, emeritus professor at Cardiff University.
This new catalog - the fourth in the series to date - is available to pre-order now and will start shipping Friday 4 October 2024 for just £8.00 per copy plus £2 P&P (UK only).
This is a great opportunity to have a selection of the work originally published in Kjell-Åke Andersson’s ‘Gruvarbetare i Wales’ 103-page photobook published in Sweden in 1977 and now very rare.
