Offline Journal will again have a table alongside several other small publishers at Ffotogallery’s Photobook Fair this Saturday 13 July in Cardiff.

During the afternoon Michal Iwanowski will give a 30 minute talk and Q&A on his recently published book Go Home Polish (available on the day), after which a sustainable analogue practice workshop will led by Dan Staveley from Elysium Gallery in Swansea.

COFION by Rhodri Jones
Fresh from printers Gomer Press in mid Wales, COFION, Rhodri Jones’ new photobook mentioned in the last Offline Journal Newsletter, will be exclusively available on the Offline Journal table at the upcoming Ffotogallery Photobook Fair this Saturday.
COFION (MEMORIES in Welsh) is a highly personal, yet collaborative, tribute to the photographer’s father John Ellis Jones – a respected classical scholar and archaeologist – who passed away in early 2023. Living in Italy and aware of his father’s failing memory and health back in North Wales, Rhodri Jones documented in photographs any time he had with his father on his trips back here and, during the Covid lockdowns, online. The loss of a parent is an experience the vast majority of us will go through and COFION offers a sensitive and creative example of a fine tribute by a professional photographer collaborating with writers and poets. COFION explores memory, loss of memory and the loss of a parent.
Before he returned to Italy with a small batch of the new books, Rhodri left a few copies with me to make them available to anyone interested in purchasing the book before its official launch in September
COFION is printed full colour over 108 pages, has illustrated end papers and selected poems, Welsh language text by the photographer and essays written for the book by Angharad Price and Manon Steffan Ros. A personal essay by the photographer, written just weeks before his father passed away, is also included.
I have just five copies of the book, each comes with a 20-page insert with English translation of the text, and cost £25 per copy (cash only or payment via BACS) and available for collection only from the Offline Journal table at Ffotogallery on Saturday 13 July between 12 - 3.30pm.
If you would like to reserve one of the five books, please email me at offline.journal@gmail.com confirming your name and preferred payment method. Books must be collected between 12 - 3.30pm on 13 July.
