THEN & NOW - showing in Penarth
Having missed the opening night due to a surprise dose of Covid, I was pleased to see the new ‘THEN & NOW’ exhibition at The Turner House in Penarth recently in the company of Robert Greetham.
An original member of the The Euro-Wales 92 Group of artists showing work in the exhibition, Greetham’s contribution is a selection from his Malaga, Spain religious festival studies which had a large exhibition titled Rites and Traces, Selected Work 1978-2021 in Aberystwyth School of Art in late 2021. A few copies of Greetham’s self-published book of the same title are available to purchase in Ffotogallery.
After walking around the show, Robert and I sat down to record a short audio interview (above) in which he offered some background to The Euro-Wales 92 Group of artists and his own work in the new exhibition.
With previous tenant Ffotogallery installed in their new home in the Cathays area of Cardiff, the exhibition programme for The Turner House is now overseen by an enthusiastic team within Penarth Town Council in partnership with National Museum Wales. I’d encourage more photographers to make contact with them to explore ideas for photography exhibitions in the impressive gallery space in Penarth.

COFION - new work by Rhodri Jones
Originally from near Bethesda in north Wales but now based in Italy, respected photographer Rhodri Jones is currently back in Wales to oversee the printing of his latest – and very different – book of photographs. He sat down with me in Cardiff to explain the background to ‘COFION’, which you can listen to in the audio clip above.
You can view a selection of Rhodri’s excellent work in project form on his website.
Archival Processing For Black and White Photography
Pete Davis continues to add incredibly interesting videos from his studio in mid Wales to his YouTube Channel – the latest of which has him take viewers through the process of creating analogue archival prints.
The 20 minute video is packed with useful insight and learning around the importance of archival processing for black and white silver/gelatin photographic prints and Pete demonstrates the processes and chemicals used in his darkrrom. He also shows examples of archival prints from a selection of his own projects.

HOME: IN ANOTHER LAND
Friday 22 June saw the opening of Glenn Edwards’ HOME: IN ANOTHER LAND exhibition in Newport Museum and Art Gallery with a great turnout of members of the black community, participants in the project and a healthy gaggle of fellow photographers.
Glenn and I met for a coffee last week and he kindly agreed to record a short audio piece (above) in which he describes the background to, and work included in, the exhibition.
