New 'Valleys' Exhibition & photographer social event
Hello again
Many thanks to everyone who has ordered a copy of the latest and biggest issue #012 of Offline Journal - the ‘Brand of Me’ issue.
With only 30% of the print run now remaining, there’s still time to order a copy of the 44-page issue which has a focus on portraiture photography by professionals earning their keep from this particular genre and delves into what inspires them and their approach to commercial work.
You can find more information towards the end of this Newsletter on the new issue and new 2-issue Subscriptions to the printed Offline Journal - with or without the limited edition printed supplements.
NEW VALLEYS EXHIBITION IN MUSEUM CARDIFF
Saturday 25th May will see the opening of a large-scale exhibition titled THE VALLEYS in National Museum Cardiff’s modern and contemporary art galleries. The new exhibition, which I’m told has a large photography element focussing specifically on photography, will explore the visual culture of the South Wales valleys across the Museum’s collections from the 18th century to the present day.
Information on this new exhibition will be available on the National Museum Cardiff website in the coming days. museum.wales/cardiff
To coincide with the opening on the 25th, I thought it might be good to explore and revive an informal Ffoton / Offline Journal ‘social’ event for any photographers who might go to see the exhibition that Saturday.
I’m therefore organising an informal meet-up on Saturday 25th May between
1-4pm in The Pen & Wig pub around the corner where anyone interested in joining me can have a catch-up on all things photography or otherwise, and also meet some new contacts. I plan on arriving at the Museum around 11am and will be at The Pen & Wig at 1pm.
Several photographers I’ve mentioned it to will be coming along, including some featured in the new issue #012 of Offline Journal and others having their work exhibited in The Valleys exhibition, one of which - Kjell-Åke Andersson will be here from Sweden that weekend and is eager to meet Welsh photographers.
Museum Cardiff is open from 10am and closes 4.45pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Pen & Wig is situated a minute’s walk across the road from the Museum at 1 Park Grove, Cardiff CF10 3BJ Wales.
Please spread the word if you know anyone who might be interested and I look forward to seeing you on the 25th May! I’ll be checking my Offline Journal Substack App messages and Twitter/X feeds should anyone wish to contact me on the day.
