The DocPhot 2022 degree show & Photography exhibitions around Wales
Tasty Documentary in a PACKED LUNCH
Students graduating from the Documentary Photography course at the University of South Wales held their Graduation Show last week in an impressively large space in the St Davids Shopping Centre in the centre of Cardiff.
Titled ‘Packed Lunch’, the show and accompanying self-published photobook featured the work of twenty-six students - some I recall meeting in a Cardiff pub when they were just starting the course three long years ago!
Navigating the Covid pandemic can’t have been easy for students or staff on any University course, but judging from the high quality of creative work exhibited in their final show, this cohort appear to have emerged all the stronger from their studies and making photography. Some readers might also recall several of these students collaborating on and publishing the Police Kicking Kids photo zine in their first year, as well as creating a new photo publishing venture www.103books.co.uk which aims to continue beyond graduation.
The Packed Lunch exhibition and book featured work by DocPhot graduates:
Tracy Ackerman Jones, Archie Archibald, Steve Bell, Oscar Brain,
Laurie Broughton, Alex Campbell-Reeves, Tom Cronin, Nate Davies,
Teifi Davies, Connor Doran, Alice Durham, James Ellaway, Malachi Francis, Ross Gardner, Billy Hanson, David Harrhy, Jon Hosgood, Curtis Hughes,
Sam Hunter, Ash Jenkins, Lydia Kallaste, Hannah Llewellywn,
Sophie Potterton, Katie Sainsbury, Luke Sumner, and Marta Wawrzycka.
Copies of the meaty Packed Lunch photobook (172 x 240mm) are available from the group’s online store: www.packedlunchexhibition.bigcartel.com
New exhibition & Zine
To accompany their new exhibition titled ‘WE’LL SHOW BARTEK ALL COLOURS OF AFRICA’ opening at FfotoNewport 5.30pm on Friday 24 June (see listing info below), Bartosz Nowiki and his daughter Ewa have produced a Zine to accompany the show. The limited edition A5-size Zine will be available at the opening.
