#35: Offline Journal Newsletter : May '22
NEWS & Last chance to win a copy of a great photobook before midnight!
Hello again.
There is still time - but not much - to have a chance to win a copy of the very hard to find ‘Once Upon a Time in Wales’ by photographer Robert Haines!
Start a Subscriber+ subscription BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TUESDAY 31 MAY 2022 for issues #009 & #010 of Offline Journal to be published October 2022 and April 2023 respectively for a chance to win this fantastic book which is now out of print and in excellent condition.
Subscriber+ support also gains access to a twice-monthly Newsletter and extra bonus content on the Offline website. You can renew your subscription here - and my thanks again in advance. Subscriptions are vital for the ongoing development of Offline Journal!
Thanks, Brian.
The live discussion held on 25th May with four North Wales-based photographers who feature in the opening section of the latest issue #008 of Offline Journal is now available to listen to online!
Mark Moran, Geoff Wedge, Emyr Payne and Neil Johansson - all actively making photographs along the A55 in North Wales - spoke with Offline Journal editor Brian Carroll on making work in North Wales today.
This audio-only session was delivered using the Callin application which is blazing a trail in ‘social podcasting’ - allowing listeners to be participants in live audio conversations. Listen to the conversation here >
Callin is free and really easy to use - a bit like a big group telephone chat but better. You can listen to this and future Offline discussions on the App or streamed live on the Offline Journal ‘show’ page on the Callin website - however, you can only participate in discussions by using the App.
Download Callin - FREE - for your iPhone or Android smartphone using the links below or visit www.callin.com for more info.

Ffoton have launched a new #ffotozine initiative for the Summer/Autumn months inviting photographers to plan and produce a new photography zine of their own in advance of The EYE International Photography Festival in October.
“Starting June through October 2022 we’ll be using #ffotozine to revive the photo zine vibe in Wales - to encourage photographers of any experience to pull images off their computer hard drives and create a new zine of their own. Create 2 or 12 zines (more if you like) to share with others before, during and after the EYE International Photography Festival”. - Ffoton
As many will already know, I’m a big fan of photobooks and photo Zines - I’ve also helped several photographers with the design and printing of their own zines. As tasty as Photobooks are, they can be expensive to produce and challenging to distribute and sell to recoup costs.
This new #ffotozine project (disclosure: I’m a co-founder of Ffoton) aims to support more photographers - in Wales and beyond - in having the confidence to plan, design and produce a zine of their own work - whether that be a one-off artist copy for their own shelf or a small but affordable print run of a dozen to share, swap or sell to others. The five months leading up to The EYE Festival should be a comfortable timeframe for photographers to revisit existing work as potential zine material or get out with a camera to experiment with new photographs.
You can follow and get involved with #ffotozine on social media using the hashtag and read more on www.ffoton.wales/ffotozine as the project develops.
