Issue #006 appeared briefly!
The April 2021 issue #006 which launched only five weeks ago has now sold out - proving to be the most popular issue to date. Perhaps the ‘Wild Skies’ theme on contemporary landscape had people longing to escape again into fresh air after a year in lockdown.
My sincere thanks once again to everyone who has shown support for Offline beyond likes, hearts and retweets on Social Media platforms - those purchasing the new issues as they appear or subscribing for two issues provide the all-important financial support to cover production costs and, just as important, the creative support and encouragement to develop the Journal further as a small independent publication. Planning has now started on the next two issues - #007 published in October.
I’m happy to announce (first on this Newsletter) that Subscriptions are again available for the next two issues. And there are now two Subscription options - here’s why…
Like many, I’ve spent a fair amount of time online attending meetings and events using platforms such as Zoom. I’ve also been having discussions with various photographers and others involved in photography seeking feedback on Offline Journal themes and articles thus far, and input on some new ideas for the future.
As a relatively young printed publication with a low print run, Offline Journal is little different from many others when it comes to readers: some will be interested in the occasional issue, theme or specific articles; whereas others may find the overall ethos of the Journal appealing and opt to secure and support future issues through subscription. The printed supplements for subscribers - essays and exhibition posters - were my attempt to experiment with different formats that might compliment the Journal. Interestingly, perhaps unsurprising, it’s the subscribers who have engaged more - on and offline - following the publication of each issue with an interest in more discussion, critique and collaboration.
The two new Subscription options launching today are designed to appeal to the casual reader interested in securing copies of the Journal; and also the reader/photographer interested in spending time between issues participating in more discussion and collaboration beyond the Journal’s printed pages.
Option 1 - Subscriber £24.00
What it says on the tin really - Subscribers secure a copy of each of the two new issues published over a twelve month period at a fixed price with P&P included.
Subscribers also receive a new monthly Newsletter to their email inbox each month.
Option 2 - Subscriber+ £40.00
This new Subscriber+ (Plus) option secures the same two issues of the Journal each year at fixed price including P&P, but also receive:
2 x A2 exhibition posters (folded to A4) - now called an exhibition folio (see below);
1 x Offline Essay featuring new writing on photography;
Subscriber+ access to new online materials and events exploring photobooks;
2 x new format Subscriber+ Newsletters to their email inbox each month
I hope the new Subscriber+ subscription will appeal to photographers and others with an interest in photography in Wales who wish to participate in more discussions and events which form a valuable community of interest around photography in and of Wales, but also a determined effort to have that work expanded in published formats.
I’m very excited about several collaborations now underway and look forward to using the new offline.wales website as an online hub for Subscriber+ backers to access new projects and materials. This will be much more than a subscription to the printed Journal!
Supporters choosing either subscription option will receive more news on developments in their respective Newsletters which will start Monday 28 June 2021.
On the same date, this Newsletter will switch to a shorter version for those only wishing to remain informed of new issues of Offline Journal as they become available.
I hope you will consider supporting the ongoing development of Offline Journal through a new Subscription. As I’ve mentioned here previously, more subscribers make a vital contribution to more issues being published - and that will allow me to build a pot over time to offer a small fee to photographers and writers in recognition of their images and words - the core content of the Journal.
Many thanks!
Since the launch of the first Offline Exhibition Poster to celebrate Ron McCormick’s ‘How Green was my Valley’ show in Newport Museum and Art Gallery in September 2019, photographers have been very complimentary on the format and their simple function of recording a show having taken place in the absence of a more expensive exhibition catalogue.
To that end, and as smaller gallery spaces need support in not only staging more photography exhibitions but encouraging more visitors to see work on their walls, Offline is collaborating with more photographers and galleries around Wales to create more new and unique folio exhibition posters as an ongoing series.
Photographer or Gallery? If you have a new exhibition in the planning stages that you think might make an interesting folio exhibition poster, please get in touch and we can discuss! Email: offline.journal (at) gmail.com
