I’m delighted to unveil the new issue of Offline Journal!
Issue #005 is a special one as it marks the publication’s third Birthday (the first issue launched in October 2018 at the EYE International Photography Festival in Aberystwyth). Time flies!
In this issue, myself and guest co-editor Ellie Hopkins dive into ‘The Photobook & Wales’ - exploring influential books and photographers through history right up to 2020. Four articles/reviews do a deep dive into selected titles and we also have a roundup of books published and/or underway in 2020 - during and beyond the Covid-19 Lockdown. The regular ‘Progredior’ endpiece for this issue is a reflection on publishing by a photographer who’s done it many times - Rhodri Jones.
If you haven’t as yet - I’d suggest this issue is a great way to start a two-issue subscription to Offline Journal as you’ll receive this new 32-page issue plus two subscriber supplements: a new 4-page Offline Essay titled ‘ffotoview: an overview’ by former Ffotogallery Director Robert Greetham plus a copy of the limited edition ‘YNYSHIR: 25 mile radius’ indie exhibition poster. You’ll also receive issue #006 in April 2021 accompanied by another new Offline Essay.
For those who’d rather grab one of the 150 copies of the Journal on its own - you can do just that and/or also bag a copy of Paul Cabuts’ Offline Essay ‘Sites of struggle and photography’ plus one of the remaining 30 copies of Ron McCormick’s ‘How Green was my Valley’ exhibition poster via www.offline.wales
A full listing of contents for issue #005 of the Journal is provided below.
Ellie and I will be keeping the theme of ‘The Photobook & Wales’ going in the form of writing, audio and video via upcoming monthly issues of this email Newsletter - so keep an eye on your Inbox!
We hope you enjoy this new issue of Offline Journal as much as we enjoyed creating it with the great bunch of contributors who gave up their time to help us!
